Basketball Recap: Roanoke Valley Christian Takes a Loss

Roanoke Valley Christian lost against Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Roanoke Valley Christian EAGLES fell just short of the Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy Ospreys by a score of 57-55. While the EAGLES didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Ospreys 12-7 in the first quarter.

Defeat or not, Roanoke Valley Christian got some senior leadership from Luke Somers and Logan Gutierrez. Somers dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Gutierrez went 9 of 17 en route to 24 points and six boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gutierrez has scored all season. Cayden Wayne also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steals of the season.

Even though they lost, Roanoke Valley Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy only racked up four assists.

Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Bisnett, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 10 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Roberson, who went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points.

Roanoke Valley Christian's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.

The future could be bright for both Roanoke Valley Christian and Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Roanoke Valley Christian will look to extend King's Christian Academy's four-game losing streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy will try to hand Faith Christian Academy their sixth-straight defeat when the two meet at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th.
