Softball Recap: Nederland Extends Winning Streak to Three

Nederland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Sterling Rangers an 11-0 shutout. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by nine runs or more this season.

Morgan Barron was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Emmy Chambless was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Hope Foster was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Nederland lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in four consecutive matches.

Nederland's victory bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Sterling, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Nederland is set to square off against their familiar foe Port Arthur Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Sterling will challenge rival West Brook at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
