Baseball Recap: Vanguard College Prep Drops Highest Score of Season Against Concordia

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vanguard College Prep). Everything went their way against the Concordia Cardinals on Tuesday as they made off with an 18-4 win. With that victory, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Braylen Schupbach and Drew Howard made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Schupbach pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Howard tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Vanguard College Prep is 3-1 when Howard allows one or fewer hits, but 1-2 otherwise. At bat, Schupbach scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Howard went 3-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Those three runs gave Howard a new career-high.

In other batting news, Henry Whitt was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Owen Peters was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

Vanguard College Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Vanguard College Prep now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Concordia, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Vanguard College Prep beat the Cardinals by a score of 15-0 on Friday.
