Softball Recap: Mattanawcook Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Mattanawcook came tearing into Monday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 22-2 margin over the Stearns Minutemen. Considering the Lynx have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Julianna Cloukey made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Megan House, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and three doubles. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabby Tash, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Mattanawcook was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Mattanawcook's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Stearns, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5.

Coming up, Mattanawcook will face off against Houlton at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Stearns does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
