Basketball Recap: St. Bernard Wins High-Profile Contest Against Staples

On Saturday, St. Bernard faced Staples in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The St. Bernard Saints came out on top against the Staples Wreckers by a score of 63-56. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Wreckers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

St. Bernard was led to victory by Amyre Gray and Curtis Marshall. Gray went 9-for-22 to rack up 25 points along with six boards and five assists, while Marshall dropped a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds. With that strong performance, Marshall is now averaging an impressive 8.6 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Geno-Amare Marshall, who posted ten points and six boards.

St. Bernard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Staples only pulled down two offensive rebounds.

Staples lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Sam Clachko, who went 8-for-18 en route to 20 points and seven rebounds. Adam Udell was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 13 points and nine boards.

St. Bernard's victory bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Staples, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 12-2.

St. Bernard has already played their next matchup, a 69-55 defeat against New London on the 4th. As for Staples, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-41 win against Ludlowe on the 4th.
