Basketball Game Preview: Battle Mountain Huskies vs. Evergreen Cougars

The Battle Mountain Huskies will square off against the Evergreen Cougars at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Battle Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.2 points per game this season.

Battle Mountain is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Middle Park back in December of 2024 (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Battle Mountain had to suffer through a 74-43 loss at the hands of Middle Park. The game marked the Huskies' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Blake Roberts put forth a good effort for the losing side as he posted 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jakob Methvin, who had ten points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Evergreen had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They had just enough and edged the Falcons out 53-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since February 9, 2024.

Evergreen's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Battle Mountain, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Battle Mountain took a serious blow against Evergreen when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 82-39. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Battle Mountain was down 49-22.
