The Parkway North Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Parkway South Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Parkway North proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by three) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Affton 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vikings have posted since April 30, 2024.
Parkway North took Affton into a fifth set where they got it done with a six-point win. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-18, 20-25, 26-24, 15-9.
Meanwhile, Parkway South faced Kirkwood in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Pioneers. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won four in a row.
The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Parkway South who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 17-25, 16-14.
Parkway North better focus on containing Jack McClanahan and Owen Darrough as the pair were huge in Parkway South's win. McClanahan had 12 digs and six assists, while Darrough had 12 kills, six digs, and one block. McClanahan has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last six times he's played.
Parkway South pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Parkway North, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Parkway North came up short against Parkway South when the teams last played back in March of 2022, falling 3-1. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
