Basketball Recap: Denzel Roberts' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pioneer over River City

Pioneer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 57-48 to the River City Raiders. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2018.

Pioneer lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Denzel Roberts, who posted 11 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Roberts a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Melvir Pooni, who put up 14 points and three steals.

Pioneer's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for River City, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-14.

Pioneer didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 71-50 loss against Vacaville on the 17th. As for River City, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 71-44 defeat against Vanden on the 17th.
