Softball Recap: West Jessamine Comes Up Short

West Jessamine fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Mercer County on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Titans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Colts of the 5-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Paige Hobgood was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Emerson Collins, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

West Jessamine has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. As for Mercer County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-6-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Jessamine will face off against Pulaski County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mercer County, they will challenge Madison Southern at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Titans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
