Baseball Game Preview: Pigeon Forge Tigers vs. South-Doyle Cherokees

The Pigeon Forge Tigers will venture away from home to take on the South-Doyle Cherokees at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pigeon Forge will be strutting in after a win while South-Doyle will be coming in after a defeat.

Pigeon Forge took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Gatlinburg-Pittman, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Highlanders on Tuesday, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since March 18th.

Meanwhile, South-Doyle didn't have quite enough to beat Sevier County on Tuesday and fell 7-5. The Cherokees have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fisher Jacobs and Chase Swaggerty did some serious damage despite the final result: Jacobs scored two runs and stole two bases, while Swaggerty scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. South-Doyle is 2-1 when Jacobs posts two or more runs, but 8-13-1 otherwise.

Pigeon Forge's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for South-Doyle, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-14-1.

Pigeon Forge couldn't quite get it done against South-Doyle when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
