The Palm Desert Aztecs had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.6 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They skirted past Rancho Mirage 65-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Leading Palm Desert to victory were Wil Wilson and Coby Christensen . Wilson scored 18 points along with five rebounds, while Christensen scored 28 points along with nine rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Christensen has scored at least 25% of Palm Desert's points. Jake Brande was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 13 rebounds and three blocks.
Palm Desert is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. As for Rancho Mirage, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-5.
Palm Desert will head out on the road to face off against Shadow Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Shadow Hills will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 818th, while Palm Desert is ranked 222nd). As for Rancho Mirage, they will be playing in front of their home fans against La Quinta at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. La Quinta is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
