Recap: Monterey Wildcats vs. Midway Green Wave
The Monterey Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They lost to Midway on the road by a decisive 65-47 margin. Monterey was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Midway apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kelsi Flanigan, who scored 16 points along with three steals. That was a full 34% of Monterey's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Haylee Trevathan, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Monterey has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Midway, their win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-4.
Monterey will take on Smith County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Smith County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Monterey in Tennessee (Smith County is ranked 66th, while Monterey is ranked 270th). As for Midway, they will head out on the road to take on Rockwood at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rockwood will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
