Volleyball Recap: Ritchie County Gets the Win + How To Watch

Ritchie County posted their closest victory since October 12, 2024 on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, sneaking past 2-1. The Rebels have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Fighting Irish, too.

Ritchie County had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-9, 25-16.

Several Fighting Irish players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sophie Gum, who had 15 digs, six kills, and one block. Gum is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had six or more in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Fryer, who had 14 digs and nine assists.

The win made it two in a row for Ritchie County and bumps their season record up to 3-11. As for Notre Dame, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

Ritchie County has already played their next matchup (against Doddridge County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Notre Dame, they have also already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against Lewis County on the 7th.
