Basketball Recap: Wekiva Mustangs vs. Ocoee Knights
If Wekiva was riding high fresh off their 63-32 takedown of Dr. Phillips on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs were outmatched by the Ocoee Knights and fell 55-26. Despite the defeat, Wekiva saw an underclassman step up: freshman Alexis Hill almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds. Hill has also also been stellar as far as shooting accuracy is concerned: she's posted one of at least 50% every time she's hit the court this season.
Ocoee was led to victory by Dakara Merthie and Jazmine Monroe. Merthie posted 18 points and seven steals, while Monroe shot 50% from the field en route to 14 points. That's the most steals Merthie has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Aniya Hester, who had four points.
Wekiva's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Ocoee, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1.
Wekiva has already played their next game, a 51-45 defeat against Altamonte Christian on the 9th. As for Ocoee, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 73-20 win against Central Florida Christian Academy on the 9th.
