League recap: Kaufman stuns Crandall in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Kaufman, who took down 536th ranked Crandall, 35-14.

The Lions moved up to 509 from 559 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region II District 14. Kaufman climbed the ranks as a result of defeating the Pirates 35-14.

Crandall's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ryan Long threw for 99 and one touchdown and Austin Pryor had 74 yards receiving. On the ground Jason Bryant chipped in 151 yards. Bryant helped Crandall's passing attack out by catching three balls for 12 yards.

Wills Point's Chase Pemberton and Tre' Smith have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Pemberton has thrown for 1958 yards this season, while Smith, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 44 catches for 785 yards. Taylor Sikorsky from Ford leads the league in rushing with 1167 yards.

James Silkey has rushed for 928 yards on 139 carries so far this year.

The Tigers' Pemberton is within 42 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Todd York's team.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Wills Point takes on the Lions. Kevin Garvin's team is in third place, while Kaufman is in second place.

The Lions led 3A Region II District 14 in scoring this week after putting up 35 points on Todd John's team.
