Baseball Recap: South Newton Comes Up Short

South Newton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 17 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-12 in the process. They lost 16-2 to the Delphi Community Oracles. The Rebels were not able to make up for their defeat to the Oracles from their previous meeting back in April of 2019.

South Newton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Dewing, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Myles Wittenborn also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

As for Delphi Community, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

On Delphi Community's side, Brett Huffman was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The Oracles are undefeated when Huffman posts two or more runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Keigan Watts, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, South Newton will be playing in front of their home fans against Tri-County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cavaliers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Rebels' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Delphi Community, they have already played their next matchup, a 12-6 victory against Marquette Catholic on the 3rd.
