Baseball Recap: Hazen's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Hazen can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They came out on top against the Newport - Bellevue Knights by a score of 4-1. This was payback for the Highlanders, who suffered a 5-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Sam Nicholson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hazen is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rydan Corwin, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hazen's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-2 (and 2-11 when he doesn't). Michael Curry was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Hazen's victory bumped their record up to 7-13. As for Newport - Bellevue, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.
