Basketball Recap: Bethanie Parks' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Holly Grove Christian over Greenwood Mennonite

If Holly Grove Christian was riding high fresh off their 39-3 takedown of St. Michaels last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Holly Grove Christian Eagles fell to the Greenwood Mennonite Flames 38-34. The Eagles lost against the Flames in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 33-8 score last time.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bethanie Parks, who posted 12 points in addition to three steals and three blocks. Parks is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Kamryn Salvas was another key player, putting up seven points and five rebounds.

Greenwood Mennonite's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Olivia Smoker, who earned five points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Carli Welfley, who put up eight points along with nine rebounds and three steals.

Holly Grove Christian's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-4. As for Greenwood Mennonite, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Holly Grove Christian will challenge Chincoteague at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Holly Grove Christian is facing Chincoteague at the right time seeing as Chincoteague is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Greenwood Mennonite, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Calvary Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. Both have allowed few points on average, (Calvary Christian Academy: 25.4, Greenwood Mennonite: 28.1) so any points scored will be well earned.
