Basketball Game Preview: Argonaut Mustangs vs. El Dorado Cougars

The Argonaut Mustangs will face off against the El Dorado Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Argonaut earned a 48-36 win over Hughson.

Argonaut's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brynn Begovich led the charge by going 5 of 10 on her way to 17 points and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna Critchfield, who posted eight points in addition to 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Meanwhile, El Dorado had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past the Wildcats with points to spare, taking the game 42-25.

Argonaut better keep an eye on Emma Fulton. She was instrumental in El Dorado's win, putting up 11 points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Russell, who put up six points and nine rebounds.

El Dorado smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

El Dorado has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Argonaut, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Argonaut took their win against El Dorado in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 by a conclusive 66-41. Will Argonaut repeat their success, or does El Dorado have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
