League recap: E.E. Smith propelled into state Top 25 after victory

E.E. Smith was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping South View. The Golden Bulls came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 38 last week.

E.E. Smith extended the longest winning streak in 4A Mid-South this week by beating the Tigers, 34-14. The win marks seventh in a row for the Duran Mclaurin's team.

Harrison Strother put up the best numbers through the air as Jack Britt bested Cape Fear. He finished with a total of five completions for 69 yards and three touchdowns. Strother's favorite target this week was Edmund Grant, who caught four passes for 51 yards.

Zack Chambers was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 101 yards on 14 carries as Pine Forest fell to the Buccaneers. Tim Allen also contributed to the rushing game with 35 yards on the ground.

Humphrey was the best wideout in the league this week as Cape Fear fell to Jack Britt. Humphrey racked up four receptions for 93 yards. Austin Davis helped Cape Fear's passing attack out by catching two balls for 41 yards.

Darryl Bonner provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Terry Sanford defeated Seventy-First. He completed 10 passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 55 yards. Bonner's favorite target this week was Jamall Daniels, who caught two passes for 41 yards.

The Colts' Spencer Faircloth and Humphrey have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Mid-South in both passing and receiving yards. Faircloth has thrown for 1254 yards this season, while Humphrey, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 41 catches for 639 yards. Phillip Bell from the Golden Bulls leads the league in rushing with 1035 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bulldogs take on the Trojans. Terry Sanford is currently in fourth, while Pine Forest is in second.

Brian Rimpf's team took down Cape Fear 38-17 last week, the largest margin of any game. Strother ran for two yards in the win.
