Baseball Recap: North Garland Gets the Win

North Garland hadn't done well against Garland recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Raiders narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Owls 5-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-8 on Tuesday.

Damian Vazquez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Vazquez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Micah Naidoo looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Zion Naidoo was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

North Garland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for North Garland and bumps their season record up to 7-20-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Garland, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 16 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-19 record this season.
