Football Recap: Paxton Tigers vs. Wallace Wildcats
Paxton entered their game against Wallace on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Paxton Tigers fell just short of the Wallace Wildcats by a score of 30-28. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.
Despite the loss, Paxton still got an impressive performance from Wyatt Walker, who rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 50 yards and a touchdown. Walker got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 64 yards.
Wallace found their leader in underclassman Ashtin Johns, who rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for seven yards and a touchdown. Johns' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 151 rushing yards dating back to last season.
The loss snapped Paxton's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record. As for Wallace, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Paxton will venture away from home to face off against Sumner-Eddyville-Miller at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Paxton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 31.2 points per game this season. As for Wallace, they will head out on the road to square off against Medicine Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Wallace also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averged 48.2 points per game.
