Pine Crest is 0-3 against Archbishop McCarthy since March of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Pine Crest Panthers will square off against the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. Pine Crest's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Archbishop McCarthy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Monday, Pine Crest needed a bit of extra time to put away West Boca Raton. They won by a run and slipped past the Bulls 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Brady Bushnell looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Cooper Obst was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Max McCawley also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Archbishop McCarthy). They came out on top against Nova by a score of 14-9 on Friday. With that win, the Mavericks brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Nick Llinas looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.
At the plate, Alejandro Cabral was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Cassino, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Archbishop McCarthy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Archbishop McCarthy's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-6. As for Pine Crest, their record is now 5-1-2.
