Softball Recap: Lake Weir Hurricanes vs. Vanguard Knights
Lake Weir was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 14th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 12-3 to the Vanguard Knights. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hurricanes of the 7-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
G Weidenbacher was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Weidenbacher was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Mae Heald made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. She also got a hit, marking her first of the season.
Lake Weir's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Vanguard, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Coming up, Lake Weir will be playing at home against Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lake Weir has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Vanguard, they will challenge Belleview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
