Softball Preview: Kearns Cougars vs. Cyprus Pirates
Kearns is 2-8 against Cyprus since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, both teams will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 3:30 p.m. Kearns is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
After only one run in their last contest, Kearns made sure to put some runs up on the board against Highland last Wednesday. Kearns put the hurt on Highland with a sharp 19-2 victory. Kearns might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four matches by ten runs or more this season.
Kallie Stocking made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Stocking has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive pitching appearances. Stocking was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Haylee Heaton was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Maliyah Solomon was another key contributor, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Cyprus unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak last Friday. They fell 6-3 to Bountiful. Cyprus has not had much luck with Bountiful recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Ainzleigh Quinn was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with a home run.
