Softball Recap: McDaniel Takes a Loss

McDaniel dropped their record down to 7-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Cleveland Warriors, falling 12-2. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Mountain Lions couldn't push the score so high this time.

McDaniel saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Gladwin, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Cleveland, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

On Cleveland's side, Jillian Lee made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Lee has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Kailen Steffek was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Clara Waldron, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McDaniel will head out to square off against Grant at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cleveland, they will face off against West Albany at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
