Toby Torres was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Piedmont Hills: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julian Marin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh Gomez, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Piedmont Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Prospect came out on top against Live Oak on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Acorns. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by just one run.
Kevin-Joseph Rieden made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rieden was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kyle Pollace was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Piedmont Hills' victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-8. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Prospect, their victory bumped their record up to 15-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Piedmont Hills has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Prospect struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Piedmont Hills came out on top in a nail-biter against Prospect in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
