Basketball Recap: Mayer Takes a Loss

Mayer played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 34-12 to the North Phoenix Preparatory Academy Gladiators. The Wildcats were down 29-8 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Teresa Londrie was Mayer's leading scorer, having posted four points. Isabella Morales held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.

North Phoenix Preparatory Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brecken Cain, who posted ten points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Cain has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lainey Wakeham, who had three points along with 14 rebounds and five blocks.

Mayer has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for North Phoenix Preparatory Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-4.

Mayer has already played their next contest, a 64-23 defeat against Ash Fork on the 17th. As for North Phoenix Preparatory Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 29-20 loss against Maryvale Prep on the 17th.
