Softball Recap: Make It Seven in a Row for Wellsville

Wellsville had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They blew past the Our Lady of Mercy Monarchs 7-1. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Makenna Dunbar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brynn Hallock and Teagan Burke did most of the damage at the plate: Hallock went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Burke went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Hallock a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wellsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in ten consecutive contests.

Wellsville's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. As for Our Lady of Mercy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5.

Wellsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Our Lady of Mercy, they will welcome Christian Brothers Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
