Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Union City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ellie Williams, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 14 boards. That's the most rebounds Williams has posted since back in January of 2024. Nala Payne was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to six assists and five boards.
Union City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Concord had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 67-54. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Spartans are ranked 369th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Concord's win came from a few key players Union City will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Grace Thorrez, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 18 points and six rebounds. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cieara Barrett, who put up 18 points and six assists.
Union City's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Concord, they pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Union City has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 31.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Concord struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Union City came up short against Concord when the teams last played on February 1st, falling 51-41. Will Union City have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
