Softball Game Preview: Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes vs. Albuquerque Academy Chargers

The Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes will take on the Albuquerque Academy Chargers in a tournament on Friday. Pojoaque Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Pojoaque Valley is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They took a 14-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bloomfield.

Lauren Salazar made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Izabella Lujan also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Even though they lost, Pojoaque Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Albuquerque Academy lost 16-1 to Miyamura on Thursday. The game marked the Chargers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Pojoaque Valley's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Albuquerque Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pojoaque Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .491. However, it's not like Albuquerque Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .574. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Pojoaque Valley took their win against Albuquerque Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 10-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pojoaque Valley since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
