Softball Recap: Merritt Island Takes a Loss

If Merritt Island was riding high fresh off their 12-2 takedown of Lake Weir last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs fell 7-4 to the Viera Hawks on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-2 back in March.

Mady Hardin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Merritt Island's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Viera, they pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

When Merritt Island and Viera next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Mustangs will take on University and their four-game winning streak at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Viera will try to stop Montverde Academy's four-game winning streak when they meet at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hawks 2.9, the Eagles 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
