Bishop Watterson extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 8-16. They came up short against the Upper Arlington Golden Bears, falling 21-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-8 on Saturday.
Bishop Watterson saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Abens, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Jackie Kirk also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
As for Upper Arlington, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games.
On Upper Arlington's side, Estella Miller got the start for Upper Arlington and what a start it was: she tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Miller has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lily Blakeman and Meera Norton did most of the damage at the plate: Blakeman went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Norton went 4-for-5 with seven RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave Norton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ella Schmidt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI.
Bishop Watterson wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 16-0 victory against Whetstone on the 13th. As for Upper Arlington, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-7 win against Hilliard Darby on the 11th.
