Baseball Recap: Southside Comes Up Short

Southside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 13-3 to the Greene Central Rams. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Seahawks of the 19-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Southside saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Ashley, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Austin Gerard also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Southside's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Greene Central, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Looking ahead, Southside will square off against Pamlico County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Greene Central, they will take on Ayden - Grifton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ayden - Grifton's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Greene Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
