Preview: Azusa Aztecs vs. Sierra Vista Dons
Azusa is 2-8 against Sierra Vista since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Azusa Aztecs will head out on the road to challenge the Sierra Vista Dons at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Azusa was handed a 28-point loss in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Duarte on Friday. Azusa sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-43 victory over Duarte. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Azusa has posted yet this season.
Meanwhile, Sierra Vista didn't have too much trouble with Duarte at home on Wednesday as they won 56-38. The win was just what Sierra Vista needed coming off of a 56-34 loss in their prior contest.
Sierra Vista found their leader in underclassman Dolan Dease, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aaron Buna, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Azusa's record now sits at 9-10. Sierra Vista's record is now 14-8.
Azusa was dealt a bruising 80-38 defeat at the hands of Sierra Vista when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Azusa was down 44-22.
