Baseball Recap: Eastside Takes a Loss

Eastside fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against DePaul Catholic on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 5-4. The Ghosts have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Kairo Reyes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Elier Ventura also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Eastside's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for DePaul Catholic, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastside will head out to square off against Passaic County Tech at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Ghosts surely won't give up without a fight. As for DePaul Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Immaculata at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (DePaul Catholic 3.7, Immaculata 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
