Football Game Preview: Keys Cougars vs. Commerce Tigers

The Keys Cougars are taking a road trip to challenge the Commerce Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Keys is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Adair on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Cougars lost 64-41 to the Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Warriors are ranked 45th).

Keys might have lost, but man, Ryder Davis was a machine: he rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and also threw for 204 yards and one TD. With that strong performance, Davis is now averaging an impressive 103.2 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Garret Lemasters, who rushed for 58 yards and one score on only eight carries.

Keys didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Lemasters and Johnny Coombs.

Meanwhile, Commerce was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 62-14 loss at the hands of Wyandotte. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Tigers have suffered against the Bears since October 9, 2015.

Commerce's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Keys, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Keys strolled past Commerce in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a score of 34-17. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
