Basketball Recap: Cherry Creek Takes a Loss

Cherry Creek fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Arapahoe on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 56-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Arapahoe Warriors. The Bruins were not able to make up for their loss to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Cherry Creek still got an impressive performance from Jeremiah Hammond, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 23 points and three steals. Thanks to that strong game, Hammond now owns an excellent 40.3% three-point shooting accuracy. Wyatt Carpender also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Cherry Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Arapahoe's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyson Watson led the charge by putting up 13 points and five boards. Those 13 points gave Watson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Wesley Foa, who posted eight points along with ten assists and eight rebounds.

Cherry Creek has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Arapahoe, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.

Cherry Creek wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 48-40 win against Poudre on the 8th. As for Arapahoe, they will welcome Eaglecrest at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Arapahoe has won nine straight at home, while Eaglecrest won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
