Seward fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hastings on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 4-3. The Bluejays were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Seward saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Riley, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Riley also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
Seward's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-5. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.33 runs. As for Hastings, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Seward is set to challenge their familiar foe Centennial at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Hastings will square off against rival Lincoln Northwest on Saturday.
