Softball Recap: Overton Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Overton came tearing into Tuesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Carlisle Indians get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-0 on Monday.

Bryleigh Nelson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Nelson was even better at the plate, firing off four doubles, two stolen bases, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Overton let Anna Perkins and Chelsea Jordan run wild. Perkins went 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and one run, while Jordan went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three doubles gave Perkins a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Halle Mayfield, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Overton hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

Overton pushed their record up to 8-8-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Carlisle, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Looking ahead, Overton will face off against Harleton at 6:00 p.m. on March 18th. As for Carlisle, they will take on Ore City at 5:30 p.m. on March 18th. Carlisle has given up an average of 16.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
