Baseball Recap: Loyola Continues Road Dominance on Wednesday

Loyola hadn't beaten St. Francis on the road since March 23, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Cubs walked away with a 3-0 victory over the Golden Knights. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-0 last Tuesday.

Loyola got a great performance from Robbie O'Rourke as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. O'Rourke has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Loyola's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Luca Marucci, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Loyola's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for St. Francis, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

Looking ahead, Loyola will square off against Mira Costa at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something the Cubs surely won't give up without a fight. As for St. Francis, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cathedral at 1:00 p.m. on the 21st.
