Baseball Game Preview: Coshocton Redskins vs. New Lexington Panthers

The Coshocton Redskins will challenge the New Lexington Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Coshocton has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while New Lexington will come in with three straight victories.

Coshocton came up short against Sheridan on Thursday, falling 13-1.

Meanwhile, New Lexington made easy work of River View on Thursday and carried off an 18-12 win.

Carson Fortner made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tanner Toth was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of New Lexington's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Nathan Gottke, who went 3-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

New Lexington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .413. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory got New Lexington back to even at 8-8. As for Coshocton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-16.
