Basketball Game Preview: Tarkington Longhorns vs. Liberty Panthers

The Tarkington Longhorns will venture away from home to challenge the Liberty Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Tarkington easily dispatched New Waverly on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Tarkington fell just short of Hamshire-Fannett by a score of 47-45 on Friday. Tarkington's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Liberty played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Shepherd, falling 66-41. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1041st, while the Pirates are ranked 518th).

Liberty's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Tarkington, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-5.

Tarkington didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Liberty in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 53-47 victory.
