Preview: Reserve Mountaineers vs. Magdalena Steers
Reserve has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Magdalena Steers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Reserve will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Magdalena is ranked 22nd).
Last Thursday, Reserve came up short against Hatch Valley and fell 51-39.
In what's become a running theme this season, Magdalena gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Capitan 62-21 on the road. The victory was familiar territory for Magdalena who now have five in a row.
Joseph Zamora continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 24 points along with five rebounds and five steals. He hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeffrey Stuteville, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Reserve bumped their record down to 2-12 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight at home. As for Magdalena, their victory bumped their record up to 14-1.
Reserve took a serious blow against Magdalena in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 69-10. Thankfully for Reserve, D'Shaun Vinyard (who scored 27 points along with five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
