The Santa Fe Trail Chargers will head out on the road to take on the Burlington Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a seven-game winning streak alive.
On Thursday, Santa Fe Trail was able to grind out a solid win over Ottawa, taking the game 12-9.
The team relied heavily on Peyton Ganger, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Trinity Fawl also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Santa Fe Trail lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Burlington beat Mission Valley 9-4 last Thursday.
Grace Birk was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Emma Thomsen and Camden Swank did most of the damage at the plate: Thomsen went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Swank went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Carlee Cole, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Santa Fe Trail's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Burlington, their record now sits at 7-0.
Both Santa Fe Trail and Burlington just can't seem to miss. The Chargers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Burlington struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Santa Fe Trail beat Burlington 7-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
