Baseball Recap: Layton's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

Layton dropped their record down to 10-12 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fremont Silverwolves. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lancers of the 6-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Layton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Fish Manning, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for Fremont, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Fremont's side, Chase Jones made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Jones has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cole Sanders, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

While Layton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
