Preview: Northern Heights Wildcats vs. Herington Railroaders

Northern Heights has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Herington Railroaders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Saturday, Northern Heights ended up a good deal behind West Franklin and lost 62-44. While losing is never fun, Northern Heights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 321st, while West Franklin is ranked 89th).

Meanwhile, Herington's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They took a 53-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Solomon.

Mason Mortensen put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. That was a full 40.9% of Herington's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyus Becker, who scored four points along with seven steals and five rebounds.

Northern Heights' loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Herington, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

Northern Heights took their win against Herington in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 48-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northern Heights since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
