Flag Football Game Preview: Culver City Centaurs vs. Inglewood Sentinels

The Culver City Centaurs will take on the Inglewood Sentinels at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Culver City 14.9, Inglewood 9.3) so any points scored will be well earned.

On Thursday, Culver City was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 25-20 to Lawndale. While losing is never fun, the Centaurs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 588th, while the Cardinals are ranked 283rd).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Hailey Gonzalez, who threw for 210 yards and three TDs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times she's played. Culver City's leading receiver Julieta Gutierrez was Gonzalez's top target yet again, picking up 75 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Culver City didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of London Cunningham and Cassidy Hoffman.

Meanwhile, Inglewood came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Apaches.

Inglewood's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Culver City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
