Recap: Overton Eagles vs. Ansley/Litchfield Spartans

The Overton Eagles entered their tilt with the Ansley/Litchfield Spartans with 13 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 14. Everything went Overton's way against the Spartans on Monday as the Eagles made off with a 56-33 victory. Overton has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Natalie Wood was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Ashlyn Florell was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with three steals.

Kerry Ryan and Ava Paitz certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Ryan scored four points along with six rebounds and three blocks, while Paitz scored nine points.

Overton's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Ansley/Litchfield, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.

Overton will square off against the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wilcox-Hildreth's defense has only allowed 25.8 points per game this season, so the Eagles' offense will have their work cut out for them. Ansley/Litchfield is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Arcadia/Loup City is ranked 241st, while the Spartans are ranked 252nd).
