Softball Recap: Homestead Victorious

Homestead had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 2-9 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Grafton Black Hawks 4-2. The Highlanders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Black Hawks, too.

Anna Faucett and Stella Leaman were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Faucett struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Leaman pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those 12 strikeouts gave Faucett a new career-high. At bat, Faucett went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Leaman went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Faucett is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jersey Schmidt, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

As for Grafton, they dropped their record down to 6-7 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since April 30, 2024.

On Grafton's side, Khiah King spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.
